2017 Trends That We Are Excited For

A new year means new beginnings, and we couldn’t be more excited, because that also means that there will be new trends that we can incorporate in home design! We’ve done our research and read article after article on what trends we can expect to be hot in 2017, and we’re here to share with you several of the trends that we are most excited about!

Gem Tones

There is just something so pretty about gemstone colors, and this coming year you’ll see these colors in more natural and bold tones. They will be bold and vibrant in depth, with mossy green, magenta, and turquoise stealing the show.

Navy & Cobalt Blue

Never out of date, blue is a classic color that works in almost any manner imaginable. Navy and cobalt will be the hotter shades of blue this coming year, and can be counted on to bring a feeling of peace and comfort to your home. Use it on your walls, in furniture, in accent pieces, or any which way you please!

Geometric Patterns

We love nothing more than when a pattern mimics the characteristics of its homeowner. The homiest rooms are those that tell a story or that show the personality of the owner, and patterns are an easy way to do just that. Geometric patterns are great for use in flooring, pillows, and curtains, so if any of these are in need of an overhaul in your home, we recommend you consider this fun trend!

Fuzzy Furniture

Life is too short to be serious all the time, and that’s why we’ve saved our favorite trend for last. Fuzzy furniture! Not only do fuzzy pillows and blankets add a carefree and fun touch to your décor, but it is also an easy and quick way to add aesthetics and cozy warmth to your home.

Resista Resists Tough Winter Messes

With the official start of winter right around the corner, ‘tis the season for more stains, spills, and messes! Whether those messes come from dirty boots, indoor play, or the winter elements, our Resista carpet is especially built for those not-so-perfect days and “oops” moments.

Our Resista carpet is ideal for households with active families that are always on the go, but we know that any household would benefit from this flooring choice. Made of advanced fiber technology, this carpeting repels stains, makes clean up a breeze, and has exceptional durability, standing strong against those loveable paws and little feet running across it.

And when the season gets messy and a stain appears on your carpet, we have you covered with easy stain-removal tips!

Mud

It’s no surprise that mud is going to have a heavy presence during the winter, but clean-up is a breeze. Apply white vinegar to a damp towel, blot and don’t rub the stain. Continue these steps, and finish with a wet towel, to seal the deal.

Candle Wax

If you’re like us, you love having a holiday candle burning to make your home feel extra cozy, but when wax accidentally spills on your carpet; simply freeze the wax with ice cubes. Once frozen, break the wax apart, and vacuum the frozen wax chips before they melt.

Ice Cream

Even though winter temperatures might be colder than other seasons, there is never a season where ice cream is not wanted! When you or your little ones spill peppermint ice cream on the floor, simply blot up the spill, and using a damp towel, apply white vinegar and continue to blot the spill until it has been removed.

Play-Doh

When the weather has your family trapped indoors, arts & crafts are a go-to for keeping your little ones entertained. If Play-Doh gets smeared into your carpet, don’t panic! Apply a dry cleaning solvent onto a damp towel, blot, repeat, and finish by applying a watered towel to the mess.

Make Your Home Festive For The Holidays

With the holiday season in full swing, if you haven’t already begun to get your home prepped, we are here to share with you several of our favorite (and simple) décor ideas for the season to get you started!

Bring the Outdoors Inside

For starters, an easy way to incorporate the joyful season into your home is to bring in some natural décor. This can be as simple as holiday flowers, such as poinsettias, or by filling a vase with branches, or a decorative bowl with pinecones.

Ornament Display

Another easy and festive decoration to add to your home is sparkly ornaments. Try placing them on a stand or in a vase as a beautiful centerpiece. The display can be all ornaments, or you can also add scented balls as well to make your home smell like your favorite seasonal scent!

Personalized Table Settings

If hosting a dinner party, personalize your table, either with name cards for all of your guests, or just make the table feel extra special with little touches in décor.

Hang Garland or String Lights

For a cozy feeling, hang garland, pinecones, or twinkling lights along door trim, banisters, or on your mantel for a feel-good cheerful touch!

Less Tech, More Living

As more and more of our attention and interest is spent on social media and with using smart devices, there is alternatively a shift in techless living rooms. A stronger focus on quality time with friends and family is taking precedence over tech gadgets, and all this trend requires from you is to create a living space without a TV.

Mismatched Cabinets

Okay, this one might not be found in a lot of homes, but we think it should, because it’s a result of “out of the box thinking.” Mismatched cabinets will mostly be found in the homes of the bold and brave, and whether you incorporate two different designs, or just two different colors for your cabinets, we can guarantee that it’ll add an entirely new look and feel to your kitchen.

Going Back To College

As the days start getting shorter and the simmering temperatures start to fade we all know it’s almost time to get ready for school. If you’re one of many who have family members or friends going back to college or starting their first year we have a few ideas to help ease their transitions.

Home Away From Home

It’s no secret that one of the biggest issues students experience while at college is being homesick. That’s why it’s extremely important to make their living spaces feel as close to home as possible to help them cope with their new environment. Have your student take little pieces from home along with them, this could be as simple as bringing a familiar lamp or pillow to importing their entire decorating scheme of their current bedroom into their new living quarters.

Decorating On a Budget

College is extremely expensive, and you’re probably looking for opportunities where you can save money. There are so many ways you can decorate on a budget at college, it’s everywhere you look. Things such as posters or flags are an extremely inexpensive way to decorate and add personal touches to rooms without breaking the bank. Additionally hand me down sales are offered at almost any school in the beginning of the year where you can buy cheap used kitchenware and furniture.

Durable Décor

College students are young and reckless which lends to a trail of destruction in their wake. A college dorm room is not the place for your beautiful textured ceramic lamp or any sort for glass for that matter. Instead look for durable plastic pieces that won’t shatter if bumped into or dropped. Most college rooms are fitted with a cold tile floor and adding an area rug or a door mat is a great way to soften the room while preventing damage of the university flooring.

We at Flooring Americas wish your students the best of luck and hope they enjoy their academic experience.

Summer 2016 Sizzling Trends

As the summer rolls on most of us will be outdoors soaking up the sun while we can. Even with less time being spent indoors it’s important to keep the interior of your home fresh and fun and we have some great pointers on how you can do just that.

Bringing the Outdoors In

One of the biggest trends for the summer of 2016 is to take cues from the natural landscape surrounding your home and to incorporate it into your decorating. Integrating natural elements such as live plants and colorful flowers are great ways to provide a relaxed and tranquil feel to your household. Additionally, using natural flooring options such as wood, bamboo, and cork will provide a warmer more organic feel to you home as opposed to the harsher man-made options.

Go Bold

The summer is all about bold and eccentric trends in fashion and it applies to your interior designing as well. Bright colors are one of the keys to this summer and we suggest using some of this year’s most popular ones such as cobalt blue, candy apple red, and lime green to spice up your living space. Another tip is to incorporate audacious patterns throughout your home and don’t be afraid to mix and match as it will add depth and texture to your accommodations.

Nautical and Coastal themes

The first thing that almost everyone associates with summer is the beach and the ocean. Over the years coastal themes during the summer have been immensely popular and this year is no different. Using soft shades of blue, white, and, tan, and contrasting them with sharp navy blue or gold will provide a stunning nautical theme to your house that’s sure to impress your guests. Furthermore, adding fun little fringe pieces from the actual ocean such as sea glass, shells, or sand dollars can really tie the whole look together.

Keep enjoying all those long sunny days and don’t forget to stop by Flooring Americas for any of your flooring needs.
